Organizational Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) within the Inbound Delivery Coordination Unit of Acquisition Management Section. The incumbent will be based in Mogadishu and reports to the Unit Chief.
Responsibilities
Within the delegated authority, the Movcon Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Receives and registers cargo movement requests for inbound air/ground cargo transportation.
Receives Purchase Orders from Procurement Section, coordinates transportation and follows up until delivery to final destination.
Coordinate’s transportation of cargo by air and/or road with third party logistics contractors.
Ensures proper and safe storage of inbound cargo.
Informs appropriate consignees on delivery of items.
Provides technical advice and guidance to personnel involved in inbound cargo movements.
Compiles and maintains cargo statistics related to air/ground movements.
Coordinate’s work of outsourced loaders at the airport/seaport.
Prepares inbound cargo reports and ensures its distribution to all concerned parties.
Facilitates movement of cargo from airport/seaport to UNSOS designated warehouse.
Facilitates and coordinates customs formalities for UN cargoes.
Provides assistance to technical sections, if required.
Prepares, compiles and maintains weekly and monthly inbound reports and statistics.
Performs other duties as and when required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and database required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in movement control related services or general experience in the field of transport, travel related or logistic fields or administration is required.
Experience with UN/NGO or other international bodies is desirable.
Additional technical/vocational qualification in logistics, transportation or management is desirable.
A minimum of three (02) years of progressively responsible experience in operations and administration in the areas of supply chain, logistics or cargo movement is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English or French, (both
oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is an advantage.”
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
