ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:

Office of the Deputy to the Director and Field Operations Coordination Department

Partnerships for Digital Development Department

Digital Networks & Society Department

    Digital Knowledge Hub Department

The Digital Networks & Society Department is responsible for BDT activities in the areas of spectrum management, network development, cybersecurity and emergency telecommunications. This department is also responsible for supporting ITU Member States in their transition to digital societies by providing tools and guidelines to address environmental challenges (in particular, climate change and e-waste), and for promoting innovation, ICT applications/services, digital inclusion and ecosystems, with the ultimate goal to ‘leave no one behind’.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Under the supervision of the Head of the Digital Society Division, supporting the Digital Inclusion Thematic Priority team, the intern will contribute and support with the implementation of the ITU Youth Strategy through Generation Connect initiatives and will: – Support the global efforts of the ITU to meaningfully engage young people. – Contribute to and support with the organization of Generation Connect activities and events. – Assist in coordination efforts towards the goal of mainstreaming youth across all ITU’s work. – Engage with the Generation Connect virtual youth communities on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. – Support partnership efforts for Generation Connect initiatives. – Supporting the ITU Youth Regional Focal Points in their co-ordinations of their Generation Connect Regional Youth Groups. – Any other youth related duties assigned by member(s) of the Generation Connect Team.

COMPETENCIES

Good skills in planning, organizing and managing events and event evaluation.

Computer skills are essential for this internship: good management of Microsoft Office and Teams.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

Education: High scholl degree as a minimum and enrolled in a University programme (or having completed studies since less than 6 months).

Experience: No work experience required.

Languages: At least one of the ITU Official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish)

REMENURATION INFORMATION

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.

The internship will be carried out remotely.
