ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) is responsible for the organization and coordination of the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) of the Union which deals mainly with ICT-focused development policies, strategies and programmes, as well as technical cooperation activities, to promote digital inclusion and drive digital transformation at community, country and regional levels. To effectively and efficiently serve the needs of ITU members, BDT is organized into four functional areas:

Digital Networks & Society Department

Digital Knowledge Hub Department

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Under the direct supervision of the Broadband Commission Secretariat Team, the intern will be required to fulfill the following tasks: Digital Platforms and Communications:

Participate in the development of social media strategy, content for web articles, newsletters and related activities.

Provide input and propose text for campaigns & promotion including the articles, help prepare content to be shared with relevant partners to increase advocacy efforts of Commission outputs, drawing on reports and recommendations.

Assist in web management including drafting news articles and providing SEO keywords research.

Employ communications tools in the creation of materials and publishing of content (I.e., Canvas).

Research:

Contribute to the monitoring of activities on public communications channels to keep the Commission up to date on relevant activities of its members and partners, and in the ICT for Development

Review the online resources and help track Commission impact.

In cooperation with the Secretariat team, help build the roadmap for events, monitor upcoming conferences, relevant seminars and events held by the community.

Support research and analysis of digital development activities; as well as the UN SDG and ICT projects to provide context to the Secretariat and its members for relevant events and campaigns.

Prepare supporting background documents/presentations etc. related to various aspects of the work like – conference calls, briefings, Working Groups activities and events.

Operations:

Support the Secretariat team in the activities of Working Groups and their members, including participating in the organization of meetings, workshops and conferences.

Support the organization of conference calls, events, engaging with external partners to coordinate content, speakers, follow up actions and logistics before, during and after each event.

COMPETENCIES

Working knowledge of Social Media, good research skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, commitment to achieving meaningful universal connectivity and desire to work in a purpose-driven work environment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

Education: University degree in areas related to International relations, marketing, communications. Other university degrees will be considered based on the areas of the research. .

Experience: No work experience required.

Languages: Excellent knowledge of English for conducting research and producing documents (drafting and editing). Advanced knowledge of English for editing document will be valued.

REMENURATION INFORMATION

Please note that a non-remunerated Internship position at ITU does not carry the same conditions of employment as a Short-term or a Fixed-term position. Mandatory Medical Insurance, travel expenses, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or sponsoring institutions.

The internship will be carried out remotely.
