The Position Summary

The Project Field Technical Assistant-Intern will be part of project JUA core team supporting in site operations management and the project sustainability phase contributing to timeously delivery of project activities within budget, scope, and quality.

Essential Responsibilities

Coordinating field activities such as preventive and reactive maintenance, mentorship, capacity building and handover including related logistics and communication

Coordinating all project related subcontractors i.e., electricians and O&M partners to ensure adherence to scope of works set out in signed contracts.

Monitoring the status of all sites on the online platforms to ensure sites are online and operational.

Liaising with site representative whose remote monitoring systems are offline to understand root cause and provide remote technical support as well as escalating issues.

Raising fault tickets and updating the ticketing tracker tool when necessary.

Data management-with guidance from supervisor, undertake downloading, cleaning, analysis of remote monitoring data and building detailed reports on sites performance.

Continuous engagement and management of stakeholders relations to ensure effective flow of information between the project and beneficiaries.

Support in internal reporting on project status.

Perform any other duty assigned by the project manager during this engagement.

Works Directly With: Program Manager, Programs Team, Suppliers, and Sub-contractors

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

Bachelor’s degree in, Electrical, Energy Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related degree.

At least 1-2 years technical experience in implementation and operations of renewable energy projects e.g., minigrids, standalone productive use of energy applications and electrification of social institutions.

Proficient in renewable energy technologies (Solar, Wind, Small Hydro, Biofuels)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong commitment to team environment dynamics with the ability to contribute towards project delivery.

Able to travel and build rapport with stakeholders in rural settings.

Success Factors

Attention to detail, Ability to plan and execute different activities as well as coordinate different stakeholders. Ability to deliver quality reports.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and may requires significant travel to project sites.
