AI lab powered by Nvidia tech opens in Stockport

A new AI testing facility from Vespertec featuring technology from Nvidia has opened in Stockport.

The Greater Manchester town will host the AI lab, which will be offering test drive services to developers.

Vespertec’s Test Drive Programme will allow customers to explore, benchmark and validate relevant technologies. The programme can be accessed remotely.

The site will be the first in Europe to feature Nvidia’s grace hopper architecture and SN5600 800GB/s ethernet switch.

“We understand the complexities involved in adopting the latest solutions, which is why we’ve created this resource,” said Vespertech co-founder and director Allan Kaye.

“By offering remote access to the newest hardware, we’re enabling our customers to thoroughly evaluate these technologies before purchase, and providing a valuable troubleshooting resource post-implementation.”

Founded in 2014, Vesper Technologies is a data centre infrastructure firm.

The Stockport-based group works on the design, configuration and development of the underlying technologies that support data centres.

The UK government last week designated data centres as “critical national infrastructure” as Labour look to double down on previous efforts to ramp up British data capabilities.

Britain has welcomed data infrastructure investments from the likes of Microsoft and Google, both of which have announced plans to build new sites in the UK.

The tech department also recently celebrated submitted plans for a £3.7bn data centre in Hertfordshire from DC01UK.

DC01UK is a recently established joint venture of property developer Griggs and Chiltern Green Energy. UKTN revealed last week that DC01UK intends to look to a US big tech firm to fund the venture. As of now, there is no indication that the project has investors lined up.
