    Result of Service

    The Consultant will ensure the effective maintenance, enhancement, and expansion of the WeWork system and associated analytical dashboards, resulting in a secure, reliable, and scalable platform that supports streamlined workflows, improved monitoring of timelines and bottlenecks, and strengthened data-driven decision-making. The assignment will deliver updated and enhanced CAP 2026 and Regional Projects dashboards, improved data quality and integration across IPMR, grants, and agreement reference data, and comprehensive technical and user documentation, including API specifications. Through redesigned dashboards, standardized processes, and targeted training on dashboard maintenance, the service will strengthen UNEP’s institutional capacity to sustainably manage workflows, projects, and programme information in 2026 and beyond.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP`s vision for the Digital Transformation of the organization is routed in responding to a changing digital development landscape and the evolving needs of our partners, including government, businesses, finance, and civil society. As such, UNEP continues to seek out and embrace existing and emerging digital technology in all aspects of its work to better serve its partners in their efforts to tackle the triple planetary crises of climate change, nature loss and pollution. Through a process of scanning, testing and scaling relevant digital technologies, UNEP aims to become an increasingly data-driven, agile, transparent and effective partner. UNEP’s approach to Digital Transformation is not only about digitalizing our products and services but also using them to drive transformation changes in five areas: environmental decision-making, economic incentives and business models, human behaviors, and environmental governance. Under the overall leadership of the Chief Digital Officer and in close collaboration with colleagues in UNEP, the consultant will develop a Umoja SAP ERP User Transaction Analysis Business Intelligence dashboard and enhance the customized reports and dashboards specific to UNEP’s reporting requirements. This position is located in the Chief Digital Office within the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi. The Data Analysis Assistant will report to the Head of the Data, Applications and AI team, under the overall supervision of the Chief Digital Officer. The responsibilities of the consultant will be to: 1. Maintain the existing WeWork system and expand its scope to include additional workflows. Implement enhancements including the development of dashboards to monitor workflow timelines and identify potential bottlenecks, continuous system improvements, and strengthening of system security and backup mechanisms. 2. Familiarize with existing UNEP Corporate and Client dashboards and develop a detailed work plan for the overall assignment, identifying the various milestones with clear timelines. 3. Perform a detailed review of existing documentation and new recommended features and modifications on the dashboards and provide written substantive and technical updated documentation. 4. Develop new features and changes and fully implement these features as per the approved design. Undertake the necessary changes and redesign the dashboards, including data cleaning and transforming procedures, to implement the new design. 5. Update the CAP 2026 dashboard and incorporate additional features through incorporating IPMR, grant and agreement reference data. 6. Update the Regional Projects Dashboard to include 2026 as the current year and cumulative balance and update the associated data sets. 7. Develop the documentation required for the creation of Umoja IPMR data Application Programming Interface (API). 8. Training on dashboard maintenance Expected Outputs: 1. Enhanced weWork system including additional workflows 2. Dashboard Development and Maintenance Workplan and Milestones 3. weWork Workflow Monitoring Dashboard 4. Updated CAP 2026 Dashboard 5. Updated the Regional Projects Dashboard 6. Redesigned and Enhanced Analytical Dashboards 7. Updated Dashboard Documentation 8. Dashboard Technical Training Session and materials

    Qualifications/special skills

    A high school diploma is required for this position. The years of experience will be reduced by two years for candidates who possess a bachelor’s degree specializing in Computer Science or equivalent. Additional training and a technical or vocational certificate in Data Analysis, Information Technology or other related areas are required.

    Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in data analysis, information technology, or related area is required.

    Experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI is required.

    Experience with data analytics tools such as databricks and python programming language is desirable.

    Experience with ICT technical support and software design/development is desirable.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this consultancy, fluency in English, including the ability to draft/edit a broad range of written reports, presentations and communications materials, and communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear and concise manner, is required.

    Ability to speak and understand regional languages is desirable.
