Degree Level
The ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships are available for:
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – up to 3 years full-time
Integrated PhD – up to 3 years full-time
Master by Research (MRes) – up to 2 years full-time

Research fields and subjects include a wide range of areas depending on faculty availability, including but not limited to: Engineering and Technology, Health Sciences and Medicine, Business and Management, Education and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Environmental and Marine Sciences.

The ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarships are open to:
Domestic students (Australian citizens, permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens)
International students from any country worldwide
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the ECU HDR Scholarships, applicants must:
Have an offer of admission to a Doctor of Philosophy, Integrated PhD, or Master by Research at ECU.
Obtain principal supervisor endorsement for the proposed research project.
Ensure the PhD commencement date is before 8 May 2026, and for Integrated PhD or Master by Research, the commencement is in Semester 1, 2026.
Not have received an AusAID or Australia Award scholarship in the last two years.
For the RTP Stipend Scholarship, applicants must not have an income exceeding 75% of the 2025 ECU RTP base stipend rate ($35,000).
Conditional offers may be granted if course applications have been submitted but not yet assessed prior to scholarship ranking.
