Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Security Adviser (SA) or the Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO), the Field Security Associate (FSA) assists in the implementation of security operations and all matters relating to the management of safety and security for UN personnel in the country or in the region of assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Collection, updating, and communication of security information and reporting and management of security incidents:

Establish and maintain contacts with government security agencies and other relevant actors.

Continuously assess the security situation at the duty station.

Gather essential information for in-depth analysis.

Regularly communicate security information to UN agency officials.

Coordinate activities with UN agency security focal points.

Report and document security incidents affecting UN personnel, offices, and assets.

Assist in preparing detailed reports on security incidents.

Coordinate appropriate response measures during security incidents.

Contribute to incident analysis for improving security measures.

Establish follow-up mechanisms to ensure incident resolution.

  1. Security plan management and personnel lists updates and monitoring and evaluation of compliance with security standards:

Participate in the development, implementation, and updating of the security plan.

Liaise with agency officials to collect and update personnel lists.

Support staff training on security procedures.

Coordinate necessary actions during the implementation of the security plan.

Conduct regular assessments to ensure compliance with security standards.

Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with Minimum Security Standards listed in the country/area SRM and RSM

Identify security gaps and propose corrective measures.

Cooperate with internal teams to enhance security and risk prevention.

3- Security assessment and advisory:

Conduct comprehensive security assessments of workplaces and staff residences.

Provide recommendations to enhance existing security measures.

Monitor local security trends and threats.

Update security protocols based on evolving situations.

Cooperate with UN agencies and local authorities to ensure optimal security.

Experience:

06 years (with secondary education) or 03 years (with bachelor’s degree) of professional experience in security, preferably in the military or police context or related field of work.

Knowledge of Microsoft software (excel, Word,) Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint

Fluency in French and working knowledge of English

Good Knowledge of Cameroonian Security Environment: Familiarity with the specific security dynamics, risks, and challenges present in Cameroon. Understanding the local context, including political, social, and cultural factors, is crucial for effective security management will be an asset

Knowledge of HF and VHF Radio Operation: Proficiency in operating HF and VHF radio communication systems commonly used in Cameroon. This knowledge facilitates effective communication in remote or challenging environments will be an asset.

Good Experience in Diplomatic Security and Protection or Previous experience or familiarity with diplomatic security protocols and procedures will be an asset

Background in defense and security service is an advantage

Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.

Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
