About Pandemic Action Network

Pandemic Action Network drives collective action to ensure the world is prepared to respond to outbreaks and prevent the next pandemic. The Network consists of more than 400 partners across sectors and geographies working to build and sustain political will, enact the policies and mobilize the resources necessary to ensure that the lessons from the COVID crisis translate into a future where humanity is better prepared to deal with emerging infectious disease outbreaks and stop a deadly and costly pandemic from happening again.

Position Summary & Key Responsibilities

Are you passionate about the role that communications and strategic collaboration plays in global social impact and global health? Are you interested in using your research skills to support issue advocacy to advance global health equity? Are you detail oriented with a passion for being a part of collaborative event planning?

The Intern role will support various work streams, including but not limited to: Communications

Monitor key issues and conversations online to inform proactive and reactive strategic communications

Maintain and update Network editorial calendars

Support content creation and distribution of weekly Network newsletter, the Pandemic Action Playbook

Maintain and update Network communications collateral, including presentation decks, one-pagers for funders and partners, briefs, and web-based communications

Maintain record of and support thought leadership of Pandemic Action team members

Support partner communications via social media channels and Mail chimp

Contribute to creative strategy and brainstorm sessions


Support stakeholder tracking and database management

Audit Network systems to inform partner insights and global partner engagement strategies

Policy & Advocacy

Proofread and format advocacy documents, including policy papers, advocacy letters, and Network statements

Support policy and advocacy research projects

Participate in and support, including through agenda setting and notetaking, regular working group meetings focused on various advocacy efforts


Participate in and join webinars and virtual events as appropriate to gain a deeper understanding of issues related to pandemic preparedness and response and translate learnings to the team and global Network of partners

Conduct ad-hoc research to inform specific Network initiatives and efforts

Programmatic Support

Provide administrative and logistical support to the Pandemic Action team

This position reports to the Senior Director and will work closely with the global Pandemic Action Network team.

Goals and Learning Objectives:

Develop a sharp understanding of strategic communications to support global health advocacy and partner engagement

Develop/expand skills in writing, research, communications, stake holder engagement, working across time zones and cultures, and working with high-level colleagues

Gain an initial or deepen existing understanding of global health security architecture, infectious disease outbreaks, policy and advocacy, policy communications, resource mobilization, and behavior change communications

Position Requirements & Qualifications

This position can be full-time (40 hours/week) or part-time (no less than 32-35 hours/week) based on candidate availability. This internship is designed for highly organized and self-motivated individuals at the graduate school level or post-grad with 1-5 years of work experience and who are interested in learning about and building skills in network advocacy and strategic communications to advance global health priorities, including pandemic preparedness and response.

This position is open to candidates located in and eligible to work in the following locations within the United States: California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington.

This is a 6-month contract position with the potential to extend another three months. All internships are remote and work from the U.S. Eastern Time Zone.

Specific requirements for Pandemic Action Network interns:

Excellent communications skills

Proven ability to thrive in a remote office setting

Demonstrated interest in learning about infectious disease outbreaks and influencing positive change in the global health landscape

Demonstrated ability to take initiative, anticipate team needs amidst ambiguity, and work collaboratively across a remote team

Proven research and analysis acumen with the ability to compile research and provide thoughtful analysis and quickly become knowledgeable on a given topic/industry issue

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; other language proficiencies welcome

Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow, and balance needs of multiple projects, while effectively managing time

Excellent eye for detail, deadlines, and thoroughness to deliver work that is ready for senior-level stakeholders

Previous agency, research, thinktank, or NGO experience a plus

Right to work in the U.S. and ability to work from the U.S. Eastern Time Zone


Panorama offers paid internships with compensation at $15.74/hour, based on the Washington State minimum wage requirements including those working outside of WA State. If the intern is located in a municipality with a higher minimum wage, Panorama will pay the local minimum wage as required by law. This role is not eligible for benefits.
