Organisational Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

This position is located in the UNEP’s Corporate Services Division (CSD) in the Programme Advisory Service Unit (PASU Unit). PASU provides seamless integration in operational areas which support and enhance programme delivery on behalf of Corporate Services Division (CSD).

The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Business Intelligence Team Lead, the intern will:

Assist in the development of corporate dashboards and reports.

Utilize business intelligence tools to visualize data and create reports for key internal stakeholders; Exploit Power BI to create data visualizations and dashboards on various organization’s KPIs;

Support in creating and maintaining back-end data ingestion and transformation processes;

Recommend changes in datasets, data models and structures where necessary;

Collaborate in identifying data processing improvement opportunities, proposing system modifications;

Carry out research on identify data processing improvement opportunities;

Assist with other data analysis related tasks in the BI Team and UNEP.

Education

Enrolled or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, social science or related disciplines.

Having good understanding of Microsoft Power Platform is required.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment
