Organisational Setting and Reporting
The Department of Global Communications/Strategic Communications division internship is for a minimum of two months with an opportunity for extension up to but not exceeding six months, depending on the needs of the department or office to which they are assigned. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Bujumbura within the Information Centres Service (ICS), Strategic Communications Division (SCD), Department of Global Communications (DGC).
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the production of infographic and multimedia content for UN digital platforms.
Produce videos and photos of the UNIC events
Assist in public information/outreach and engagement with the public, such as outreach to schools, Model UN, putting together exhibits based on materials from UNHQ, presentations, etc.
Assist in the monitoring and analyzing of current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends, and informs management on possible action/responses using digital communications.
Provide communication support to UNIC, especially digital communications support, as needed.
Contribute to the organization of UN observances and campaigns, press conference, educational/media outreaches, etc.;
Participate in and take notes of the UNIC chaired meetings

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in French is required for this internship.
