Jacob Kiplimo Destroys Half Marathon World Record in Barcelona

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has shattered the men’s half marathon world record, clocking an astonishing 56:42 at the Barcelona Half Marathon. The 24-year-old two-time world cross country champion obliterated the previous record of 57:30, held by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha, by a staggering 49 seconds—the largest single improvement in the history of the event.

From the start, Kiplimo set an electrifying pace, covering the 5K mark in record time and maintaining an unrelenting rhythm through 10K and 15K. As he powered through the streets of Barcelona, it became clear that something historic was unfolding. With every stride, he widened the gap between himself and the clock, showcasing a perfect blend of speed and endurance.

His breathtaking run—pending official ratification—cements his place among the greatest long-distance runners of all time. Already an Olympic and World Championship medalist, Kiplimo’s latest achievement signals his dominance on the road and adds yet another milestone to Uganda’s rich distance-running legacy.

This performance sets the stage for what could be a golden year for Kiplimo, who has now proven he is not just fast but a history-maker.
