UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

    And we never give up.

    For every child, security.

    UNICEF South Africa

We work to promote the rights of every child. We believe that ensuring a child is happy and healthy begins before birth: from ensuring their mother has access to good health care to reaching adulthood as a healthy, empowered and informed young person of the next generation. This journey relies on every child having access to quality health care, good nutrition, education, and growing up in a safe environment free from violence.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF South Africa has approximately ZAR7.5 million VAT input submissions per financial year. As the Receiver of Revenue requirements are onerous, this requires dedicated expertise for ensuring the requirements are met for each submission. The purpose of the assignment is to provide assistance to the Country Office to claim back input VAT from the South African Receiver of Revenues (SARS).

The selected candidate will report to the Quality Assurance Specialist.

The Scope of the work includes the following:

    • Downloading documentation (invoices) from VISION
    • Reviewing invoices for compliance with SARS regulations
    • Identifying the corresponding amounts on the CITI Bank statements
    • Printing out the invoices and the statements (for delivery to SARS)
    • Completing the SARS templates for submissions online (SARS e-filing)

The consultant will also develop an invoice checklist for compliance with SARS regulations with the following outcomes:

    • Non-compliant invoices are sent back to the suppliers with compliance requirements for reissuance and resubmission
    • Compliant invoices are filed
    • The corresponding amounts on the Citi Bank Statement correlate with compliant invoices
    • Printing and physical submissions to the SARS office
    • SARS e-filing is completed before deadline

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

    • A qualification in Administration, Finance, Taxation or any relevant field
    • A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience in administration or related field
    • A minimum of 5 years working for UNICEF or a UN agency in South Africa
    • Experience processing VAT input claims for an international organisation
    • Fluency in English is required
    • Knowledge of another local language is an asset

    Application guidance:

    • Please indicate your ability and availability; and attach a technical proposal and financial proposal in ZAR to undertake the terms of reference above (including admin costs). Proposals submitted without a detailed financial proposal aligned to the assignment will not be considered.
    • UNICEF does not charge any application, processing, training, interviewing, testing or other fee in connection with the application or recruitment process.
    • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and advance to the next stage of the selection process.

    For every Child, you demonstrate…

UNICEF’s values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Sustainability (CRITAS).

UNICEF is committed to promote the protection and safeguarding of all children. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks, and will be expected to adhere to these standards and principles. Background checks will include the verification of academic credential(s) and employment history.
