A cassava processing plant has been announced in Foumbot, Noun division of the West region, in an initiative led by the Growth Sector Network Center (CFRC), which is an arm of the Ministry of Economy, Regional Planning and Development.
According to the main actors, the project seeks to strengthen the policy of import substitution in Cameroon. Local producers of cassava will be at the center of the project which will help enhance production.
Inhabitants of the area, accompanied by agricultural experts, have been sensitized on the importance of the activity, and the impact of the project on the livelihoods of the population.
“The youth of Foumbot will benefit a lot from this factory because they will have employment and our standard of living will also rise,” Mrs Tambi, a cassava producer in Foumbot said.
“We were cultivating cassava and selling for 50 FCFA per kilogram but now, we will produce the cassava and sell for 100 FCFA per kilogram,” she added.
Members of the CFRC visited the Bamoun sultanate and the President of the West Regional Council to present the project which aims at adding value to the efforts of cassava producers in Foumbot.
