Apple introduction of its late Siri overhaul is expected to finally arrive during WWDC, as part of a trend by the company to improve the quality of the software it ships.
Apple was thought to be preparing its big update to Siri for a developer beta of iOS 26.4, as well as similar betas for macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26.4. With it not visible in the developer beta builds at this late stage, the next probable launch time for it will be during WWDC in June.
However, Siri faces being only a part of a number of areas Apple will improve during its annual developer showcase.
Writing on Sunday in Bloomberg’s “Power On” newsletter, Mark Gurman says the Siri overhaul will be a priority for WWDC. This update, referred by the name “Campo,” will update the interface to be a bit more like other chatbots, such as ChatGPT or Claude.
The update will also bring with it the integration of models used by Google Gemini. The deal from January involves Apple using Google’s models as a basis for Apple Foundation Models, used to create the new Siri experience and functionality.
It’s an update that will cost Apple in the region of $1 billion per year.
This update will apply across Apple’s ecosystem, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Tightening up, and Liquid Glass
Apple’s WWDC plans won’t just be about Siri. Gurman adds that there will also be a “tightening up” of software quality across the ecosystem.
To Gurman, this will apparently involve one key improvement to Liquid Glass that will make it much more granular. While the aesthetic has some interesting quirks in its iOS 26 implementation, Apple wants to allow users to change its intensity.
This has apparently involved the creation of a system-wide slider to set the level of the glass effect users experience.
It already has done this with the lock screen clock to great success. However Gurman says that there were engineering challenges that prevented it from being implemented across the operating systems as a whole.
If executed, this would mean more control over how Liquid Glass affects app folders, navigation bars,and the home screen in general.
It’s too late for iOS 26 to benefit from more Liquid Glass control or even the new Siri. But users of the “27” generation of operating systems will enjoy the benefits.
