2022 Graduate Student Internship – RED Team

Locations: Delhi, India; Lusaka, Zambia; Nairobi Kenya; Remote

We seek leaders who are passionate about making a difference, possess exceptional analytical skills, and thrive in an entrepreneurial, developing country setting.

We are looking for several interns from the Harvard MPA-ID program to support senior leaders within IDinsight’s research evaluation and data (RED) team with ongoing client & internal research projects. Selected graduate interns will receive significant support and mentorship from IDinsight’s RED team leadership during the duration of their internship. Potential projects will be discussed in detail during the interview process, more information about requirements for each location is provided below.

About IDinsight’s graduate student internship

Selected graduate interns will work with a member of IDinsight’s RED team leadership in Africa or Asia for a period of 8-12 weeks. The exact project assigned to the graduate intern will be the result of conversations between the intern and his/her IDinsight supervisor to ensure that it is carefully designed to meet the interests and skills of the intern and the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in public policy, international development, or a related field and able to take on a full-time internship role

Strong interest in joining an IDinsight field office after graduation; commitment to IDinsight’s vision, mission, and values

Deeply passionate about international development and social impact, with an interest in evidence-based approaches

Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in statistical software is required.

Experience running field experiments or impact evaluations a strong plus c6qm3vb CWdGXY

Work experience in a developing country setting strongly preferred

Intellectual curiosity and a sense of humor

Location-Specific Information/Requirements

Nairobi, Kenya

The selected candidate will support the final analysis of a mixed-method RCT evaluating the effects of cash transfers in a refugee settlement and work towards converting this analysis into an academic paper. There is an opportunity to be a co-author.

The selected candidate will work with a senior member of our Data Science Engineering and Monitoring Systems team (DSEM) on one of our ongoing Data Science projects – Praekelt, Educate Girls

Required: Python, Machine Learning, git.

Nice to haves: Flask, R, Docker

Lusaka, Zambia

The selected candidate will work on ongoing impact evaluation projects for an international organization, a large non profit, and other such partners. (And/Or) The candidate will help in creating an online technical bootcamp.

Remote

June – July 2022

The selected candidate will analyze the methodological data of a pilot project and work towards producing a report for sharing.

Compensation

We request students to secure university funding whenever possible. However, for students without access to university funding, IDinsight will provide a small stipend to cover flights, housing and a living stipend.
