The Organization

Since 1944, Heifer International has helped more than 36 million families lift themselves out of hunger and poverty.

Our goal is to help families achieve living incomes, which will allow them to feed their families daily, educate all their children; and have proper housing, water, hygiene, and other essential resource. When many families gain this new sustainable income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural cooperatives, forming community savings, and funding small businesses.

In Kenya Heifer International has been in operation since 1981. Our Strategic focus is to assist 330,000 farmers and pastoralist households to move from poverty and vulnerability to sustainability and resilience in a healthy environment through participation in the dairy, meat, and horticulture value chains. The Hatching Hope Kenya Project is one such initiative that aims at improving nutrition and economic livelihoods through production, promotion and consumption of poultry.

The Role

Heifer Kenya is presently receiving applications for internship for the underlisted functions to be hosted for varying   periods between August and December 2022.

Agribusiness Management /Veterinary Sciences /Livestock Production- Kisumu

Communications/Public Relations/ Digital Content Management -Nairobi/Kisumu

Planning Monitoring & Evaluation-Nairobi/Kisumu

Knowledge Management -Nairobi

Accounting & Finance – Nairobi /Kisumu

Human Resources Management-Nairobi

Essential Competencies:

Intellectual curious, accountable, professional judgement, effective communicator, pragmatic, inspirational and team player.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

The interns will be assigned varying assignments in line with their scope of interest as well the prevailing needs of the hosting department. Detailed terms of reference to be discussed with successful applicants

Qualification and Skills

For  each of the thematic areas above , we are interest in talking to;

Recent graduates ( 2019- 2022 ) with an undergraduate degree in the respective specializations as listed above.

Preferred Requirements:

Higher qualification in the same /related disciplines have an added advantage

Membership to professional bodies associated with the line of profession

Most Critical Proficiencies:

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Knowledge of the non-profit sector and the context to which non-profit organizations operate.

Exemplary customer care and administrative skills

Strong problem-solving skills.

Strong English language skills – oral and written.

Knowledge and experience with word processing, spreadsheets, database, newsletter, and electronic mail software (Microsoft Office preferred).

Excellent keyboarding skills.

Essential Job Functions and Physical Demands:

May require constant sitting; working at a computer for extended periods of time.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively, tactfully and diplomatically with a culturally diverse group of people.

Ability to produce accurate documents in a well-designed and attractive format with superior attention to detail.

May require occasional bending and lifting of up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms) floor to waist.

Ability to operate all standard office equipment including copiers, scanners, fax machines and printers.

Ability to establish priorities, achieve deadlines and make sound judgments.

Ability to perform as an effective team member and work cooperatively with a diverse staff.

Ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Constant telephone, face-to-face and electronic communication with colleagues and the general public.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with minimal supervision.
