About the position

The Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT is looking for an Intern who will provide communication support for the SUSTLIVES project. The project started in October 2021 and will end in December 2025. The proposed regional intervention aims to promote a transition to sustainable and resilient agricultural food systems to climate change in Burkina Faso and Niger through the enhancement of heritage local cultures and their income-generating value chain in the Sahel region. SUSTLIVES is based on an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic and agro-environmental characteristics of Niger and Burkina Faso, where a comprehensive approach is proposed to protect and strengthen agrobiodiversity, as well as a participatory and inclusive approach, sensitive to gender and age.

Within this framework, the Intern will assist in developing and disseminating the SUSTLIVES’s project outcomes, methodologies and best practices for mobilizing biodiversity to improve dietary diversity using multi-media and innovative communication tools

Responsibilities

Home-based, under the supervision of the Associate Scientist in the Multifunctional Landscapes lever, the Intern will:

Assist in writing compelling blog posts and stories for the SUSTLIVES project newsletter, website and social media platforms to help drive traffic to our website and raise interest in project activities

Develop short country profiles, including pictures, texts, links to blogs and publications and possibly short video clips on countries and project activities therein

Create infographics/posters on biodiversity for food and nutrition

Assist with compilation of case studies/papers for future dissemination

Perform other tasks as requested and assigned

Working in a highly stimulating multicultural environment, the Intern will gain knowledge and skills in:

Research for sustainable development

Conservation of local agrobiodiversity for food and nutrition

Production of training materials

Cross-cultural communications

Requirements

Ongoing or recently completed studies in new communications media, audio visual studies, science communications; ideally combined with training in development studies, environmental sciences, geography, nutrition, food systems and gastronomy

Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken

Strong writing and storytelling skills

Video editing skills (desirable)

Graphic skills (knowledge of the Adobe packages desirable)

Interest in biodiversity conservation and in environmental, food security issues

Terms of employment

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university or graduate school and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies, or alternatively, have completed their university studies within the past six months. The internship shall be on a full-time basis for 6 months. The monthly stipend will be established in accordance with the local standards and regulations.
