Field of activity

The project supports the ministries in charge of forests and the environment of Cameroon in the implementation of their national programs. A key contribution is the consolidation of methodological approaches and models to ensure inclusive, sustainable and climate-sensitive management of Cameroon’s forest environment and resources by local actors in selected communities and to contribute to value creation. The programme’s advisory services are provided at national, regional and local levels and target both ministry staff and representatives of communities, civil society and the private sector.

Your tasks

As part of your service as a Technical Assistant, you will assume the following tasks:

Organize the development and execution of studies/preliminary inventories and/or monitoring of biodiversity in communal and community forests and partner forest landscape restoration sites

Develop a participatory biomonitoring program in communal and community forests and selected partner FLR sites

Support partner forest municipalities in the development and implementation of annual biodiversity action plans

Support partner forestry companies in the implementation of wildlife management plans integrated into forest management plans, including the management of human-wildlife conflicts

Support the project monitoring and evaluation team in the development and implementation of capacity building activities in biodiversity management and environmental awareness/education

Strengthen the capacity of women, young people and local and indigenous communities to better describe their interests in the main decision-making processes concerning the management of biodiversity and forest resources

Contribute to the writing of scientific and popular articles relating to the implementation of biodiversity management activities by the project and its partners

Ensure, if necessary, the execution of any other activity or task relating to the management of biodiversity and/or the implementation of the project with other partner organizations (sectoral, private, civil society organizations) or institutions (protected areas, safari, teaching, etc.)

your profile

University degree or professional qualification related to forestry, conservation biology, ecology, protected area management or any other applicable field of study or expertise or similar professional qualification

At least 10 years of work in topics related to professional qualification with good work experience with technical or financial cooperation and with the private sector (protected area, safari, logging)

Expertise in wildlife management (mainly large mammalian fauna) and biodiversity in forests or protected areas in Central or West Africa, in participatory conservation of natural resources and in human-wildlife conflict management

Mastery of tools for ecological monitoring and processing of biodiversity inventory data and mastery of associated computer tools; Overseas experience, ideally in French-speaking Africa and experience working in cross-cultural contexts and remote and isolated areas

Available to carry out long and repeated field missions

Structured work style with a high degree of self-organization and creativity and good writing and documentary research skills; Teamwork and networking skills combined with the talent to think conceptually and analytically

Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills

Fluent in French, very good knowledge of English or German

As a development worker, you can use the project vehicle for trips to school or to the doctor or receive a monthly mobility allowance as a replacement. Private trips with the project vehicle are also possible with the consent of the manager.

As a development worker, you will receive a wide range of other benefits (e.g. foreign allowance, family allowances, private group health insurance) in addition to the basic maintenance allowance during your assignment.

So that you can prepare for your development worker assignment and your departure, you will receive leave to leave the country after your preparatory period in Germany.

For children under the age of 14 who are traveling with you and are entitled to maintenance, we will cover a large part of the care costs, provided your partner is not traveling with you and is not working as a development worker or integrated specialist. Most of the costs for kindergarten or school are covered.

We reimburse your rental costs based on the country-specific rent index and pay an additional equipment and furnishing fee.
