The Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC), a collaborative initiative between the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Government of Germany, offers Industrial Fellowships for the academic year 2024. This prestigious fellowship program is designed to support PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in Science and Technology (S&T) fields, fostering applied research and technology development.
Host Industries in Germany
Applicants are required to secure consent letters from both a host industry in Germany and their mentor in India. While candidates can choose any relevant industrial research institution, IGSTC provides an indicative list of potential hosts:
Fraunhofer IPA, BASF, Airbus, Fraunhofer IWES, Fraunhofer IDMT-HSA, Fraunhofer IGB
Degree Level
The IGSTC Industrial Fellowships 2025 are available for two-degree levels:
- PhD Level: For students who have completed at least one year of their PhD in Science or Engineering (PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowship – PIEF).
- Postdoctoral Level: For recent PhD graduates in Science or Engineering within two years of completing their degree (Post Doctoral Industrial Fellowship – PDIF).
Benefits
The program provides extensive financial assistance, including:
- PIEF: €1500 per month.
- PDIF: €2500 per month.
- Travel and Visa Expenses: Reimbursement up to €1000 covering a single round-trip economy airfare, visa fees, and travel insurance.
- Health Insurance: Support up to €100 per month.
Eligibility Criteria
- PhD Industrial Exposure Fellowship (PIEF):
- Open to young researchers who have completed at least one year of their PhD program in Science/Engineering from Indian institutions.
- Applicants must be below 28 years of age.
- Fellowship duration: up to six months.
- Post Doctoral Industrial Fellowship (PDIF):
- Open to fresh PhD graduates in Science/Engineering from Indian universities/institutes.
- Applicants must be below 35 years of age and within two years of completing their PhD.
- Talented researchers without a permanent position or those with a career break meeting the age and PhD criteria are also eligible.
- Fellowship duration: up to twelve months.
