Job Title: Legal Intern

Job Overview

The Office of General Counsel manages the legal affairs of DAI and provides legal advice and support to DAI’s businesses and corporate services departments, as well as subsidiaries and projects overseas. The Office of General Counsel also oversees enterprise risk management, the company’s global ethics, safeguarding and compliance program, governance matters (including board relations), and the company’s global employee ownership program.

Job Description:

Duties of the Legal Intern will include: 1) Research requirements for compliance with various government procurement/contracting regulations, national and international data privacy regulations, and other international development practices and guidelines;

2) Research legal and operational complexities, including corporate, tax, and employment laws, in countries where DAI is implementing projects;

3) Support risk analysis and mitigation efforts across the company;

4) General legal research and writing.

Desired Qualifications:

DAI’s ideal candidate is a student between their 4th and 5th years of legal studies at an accredited university in Nigeria, working towards a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). The candidate should have a strong interest in international development and:

Strong analytical and research skills;

Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally in English; and

Ability to learn quickly and to apply results-oriented problem-solving methods.

International work experience and bilingualism/multilingualism are highly desirable.

This role will be based in Nigeria but managed primarily from the United States. Must be eligible to work in Lagos, and/or Abuja, Nigeria.
