SCOPE OF WORK: The Asset Building Program fosters economic stability and thriving communities by providing asset building to refugees and other low-income populations. Matching funds through Individual Developments Accounts (IDA) can be applied to first-time home ownership.  Consumer lending and financial coaching are also components of this program which involve an ability to engage and empower clients through their personal finances. The Asset Building Intern will assist the Program Coordinator with the core operations of the program. The intern will learn through experience about asset development programs and working with refugee populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Asset Building Coordinator, the intern will assist with the following:

Develop comprehensive economic empowerment service plans for each client including a baseline financial health assessment including net worth and credit score.

Works with clients to review personal credit history and helps support credit improvement activities.

Review asset purchase documents to ensure completeness

Process program participant deposit data and enter into data base to track progress

Audit program financial data on a monthly basis to track progress

Provide technical assistance to program participants regarding program processes

Assist Program Coordinator with Financial Literacy class preparations

Assist Program Coordinator with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) preparations

Act as local support for applying for and following up on credit-building and consumer loans given to clients through the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO).

Develop innovative operational solutions as needed

LEARNING OUTCOMES: The Asset Building Program Intern will have the opportunity to hone project management, cross-cultural communication, global development strategy, financial analysis, and accounting procedures. The intern will also have the opportunity to become familiar with real estate, consumer lending, the global non-profit environment and working with refugee populations.
