Background:
The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) is mandated to coordinate, oversee and guide agricultural research in Uganda. Over the years, NARO has generated technologies and products with Intellectual Property (IP) and commercial potential guided by relevant policies under her mission of innovating for sustainable agricultural transformation
A number of policy frameworks and structures have been established to foster practical application and economic use of research outputs for the public benefit through commercialization as an efficient means of promoting dissemination and use of NARO’s technologies and products. This is envisaged to provide an environment that will stimulate creativity and innovativeness needed in research for mutual benefit.
USAID is partnering with NARO through Feed the Future (FtF) – NARO Funding Framework to strengthen NARO’s institutional capacity to enhance rapid and sustained commercialization of her research technologies for transformation of people’s livelihoods. In order to strengthen its commercialization capacity, NARO intends to recruit qualified personnel in various positions.
Job title: Driver
Job Summary: The Driver will be responsible for transporting staff and clients or handling deliveries in a timely manner, and take full responsibility of ensuring that the vehicle is well maintained and is in good running condition.
Reports to: Administrative Assistant
Duty Station: Entebbe/Mukono
Roles:
- Driving motor vehicle to transport staff, clients and visitors to designated locations.
- Regularly clean and polish the vehicle, change tyres as well as make minor repairs or adjustments.
- Undertake routine and preventive maintenance of motor vehicle by checking and topping up the level of petrol diesel, oil, water battery electrodes and tyre pressure before operating the vehicle.
- Maintain daily records of the motor vehicle showing journeys, mileage, petrol/diesel oil and signature of authorizing officer to account for all the journeys made. Perform miscellaneous errands such as collecting and delivering mail/parcels and other items as well as buying goods, supplies and consumer items. Report motor vehicle accident to the traffic police and other officer in charge, obtaining police abstract report and compile insurance accident report in conformity to the traffic rules and regulations.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisors.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
- O-level certificate
- Valid driving permit (class B)
- Driving experience of 5 years
- Defensive driving certificate
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
