The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is a department of the United Nations Secretariat. Its mission is to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian action effectively in partnership with national and international actors, to alleviate human suffering and advocate for the rights of populations in need, to promote disaster preparedness and prevention.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is a department of the United Nations Secretariat. Its mission is to mobilize and coordinate humanitarian action effectively in partnership with national and international actors, to alleviate human suffering and advocate for the rights of populations in need, to promote disaster preparedness and prevention. With a view to effectively supporting and strengthening the coordination of the humanitarian response in the face of a complex set of internal and external factors, OCHA Cameroon is working to strengthen the partnership and capacities for emergency preparedness and response, aimed at supporting Cameroon and being able to provide support to UN agencies and humanitarian partners who assist the most affected and vulnerable populations. The OCHA Sub-Office in the Far North, based in Maroua, ensures that the opinions of affected populations, local authorities and partners are taken into account in the strategic coordination of the humanitarian response in Cameroon. The Maroua Sub-Office also offers a local service to all humanitarian actors established in the region. It facilitates the humanitarian response there, in particular through its functions of civil-military coordination, analysis of humanitarian access, and coordination of multi-sector assessments.
Job description
Under the direct supervision of the National Humanitarian Affairs Officer, the UN Volunteer will perform the following tasks:
Support the Maroua sub-office with regular reports, including daily, weekly and monthly reports, as well as ad-hoc humanitarian updates and reports;
Carry out regular field visits to collect and verify the information necessary to understand the impact of the humanitarian situation and the needs of the most vulnerable communities;
Support data collection and analysis of the humanitarian situation across the Far North region as requested by the Maroua sub-office, including supporting information management, field assessments, liaison with community and research;
Support the provision of information in response to internal and external requests and queries;
Participate in the development of presentations, information products and contact sheets;
Draft field visit reports and meeting notes ensuring that an adequate and accurate record is maintained;
Provide advocacy support for the organization of events, preparation of field briefings for officials, diplomats and decision makers;
Support the Cameroon office in its humanitarian coordination role, contributing to the strengthening of relations with relevant actors, including sectors, international and national NGOs, and local authorities; and participating in relevant meetings;
Assist in maintaining meeting schedules, contact lists and relevant operational documents;
Assist the Office in disseminating UN, partner and OCHA reports at the local level;
Provide support to the Maroua sub-office in the organization of meetings, workshops and other activities: support travel management processes; Administrative and operational support; Serve as focal point for logistical and administrative matters;
Contribute to the development of the mapping of stakeholders “who does what or” (5W);
Provide additional and related support to the Office, as required;
Contribute to the coordination of humanitarian situation assessment missions. In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are expected to:
Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading the documentation made available by the UNV program, as well as external publications; and take an active part in UNV activities, for example getting involved in activities commemorating International Volunteer Day (IVD), 5 December.
Become familiar with and develop any form of traditional and/or local volunteering in the host country.
Reflect the type and nature of voluntary actions they undertake, including their participation in substantive reflections.
Contribute to the drafting of articles on field experiences to be submitted for UNV publication/website, newsletter and press releases, etc.
Contribute to the Welcome Program for newly arrived United Nations Volunteers in the country of assignment;
Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteers or encourage individuals and organizations to use the services of online volunteers when technically possible. Expected results :
Timely production of regular reports, ad hoc reports and responses to inquiries.
Increased field presence, including through assessment support, preparation of field visits and community liaison.
Minutes of meetings and field visit notes are prepared, shared and stored in a timely manner.
Meeting schedules, contact lists, presentations and other information products are up to date.
Support the work of the coordination team
Capacity development through mentoring, monitoring and continuous training, working (including supervision) with national staff or counterpart counterparts (governmental or non-governmental, including implementing partners) tion (IP);
Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is consistently applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;
A report of achievements in the field of volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as the number of volunteers mobilized, participation in activities and contribution to capacity development

Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in Experience in field research, assessments and working with affected communities. Experience in managing multiple stakeholders and perspectives is an asset. Prior experience with international organizations, crisis management and emergency relief operations is an asset. The same applies to good practical knowledge of disaster management and knowledge of the humanitarian situation in the Far North region. Proficiency in Microsoft software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

The city of Maroua is the capital of the Far North region of Cameroon and of the department of Diamaré. It was erected as an “Urban Community of Maroua” in 2008. With its 1,007,000 inhabitants, this university town is one of the top five in Cameroon. The climate is tropical, dry and hot, almost semi-desert. The average annual temperature is 28.3°C. The average annual precipitation reaches 794 mm. The city is crisscrossed by large tree-lined avenues that bring a bit of freshness. The populations of Maroua are mainly from the following ethnic groups: Mouyengue, Mofu, Guiziga, Peuls, Daba (Kola), Toupouri, Mafa, Mousgoum, Kotoko, Mandara, Kanuri, Mada, Podoko, Zouglo, Méri. Maroua therefore has a plural culture.
