Chemonics International, an international development consulting organization that has been operating since 1975 in more than 150 countries around the world, seeks an experienced Malaria Health Systems Strengthening Advisor for USAID’s anticipated activity in Cameroon through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). The Systems to End the Malaria Burden through Meaningful Engagement-II (SEMBE II) activity aims to advance the goals of PMI Cameroon and the Cameroon National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), which are to reduce deaths, reduce disease and reduce transmission to accelerate malaria elimination in Cameroon.

Chemonics is looking for a Malaria Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Advisor who will lead the project’s HSS activities to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation of Malaria activities. Experience in Cameroon is required and proficiency in English and French is highly desired for this position.

Responsibilities include:

Lead malaria health systems strengthening activities to address gaps at the national, regional and facility levels

Ensure effective and timely implementation of HSS activities in the project work plan

Work with NMCP to ensure front line health workers (government and non-government) receive adequate training and mentoring to provide high quality malaria services

Strengthen NMCP leadership and governance at the national, regional and district levels to effectively manage the malaria response

Contribute to NMCP HSS efforts through technical working groups and other forums

Develop SEMBE II sustainability plan and ensure effective transition of activities to the NMCP and local actors.

Ensure strong collaboration between in country malaria partners and make sure SEMBE II leverages existing resources

Document lessons learned from HSS efforts and disseminate learnings nationally and globally

Participate in project annual work planning and preparation of donor progress reports

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in public health, international public policy, health economics, or a related field

Candidate must be a citizen of Cameroon with work experience in the country

At least eight years of experience in health service delivery, including at five years of senior-level experience providing technical and operational support

Experience working with donor funded projects desired

A working knowledge of PMI indicators and the Government of Cameroon Malaria Control Strategic Plan

Demonstrated ability to develop and promote collaboration with national authorities and partners.

Willingness to travel extensively in Cameroon

Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

Fluency in English and French desired
