Project Overview and Role:

USAID CATALYZE Ethiopia: Market Systems for Growth (MS4G) is a four-year, buy-in designed to benefit the Ethiopian people, build community resilience, and strengthen rural-urban linkages, predominantly in the areas of food security, WASH, and COVID-19 economic recovery. MS4G focuses on facilitating access to jobs for women and youth, enterprise resiliency, and sustainable opportunities for women and youth, leading to better employment, food security which in turn leads to individual and community resiliency. MS4G is also designed to provide support to enterprises in agriculture, WASH and other productive sectors by strengthening the enterprise support ecosystem within Ethiopia. MS4G is designed to have impact not just in Addis Ababa but also in select secondary cities.

MS4G uses a market systems approach to address key market sub-system areas and the impact of economic shocks, including COVID-19 and political instability by stimulating adoption, adaptation, broad expansion, and responsive institutionalization and scaling of approaches and business models to transform the lives of Ethiopians. As such, MS4G Activities are organized around four key sub-systems and three cross-cutting program areas:

Sub-system 1: Strengthening business systems

Sub-system 2: Improving skills and productivity (workforce systems)

Sub-system 3: Improving policy systems

Sub-system 4: Access to finance (finance systems)

Cross-cutting efforts: Support USG efforts to catalyze trade and investment, advance the digital economy, and emphasize export opportunities.

MS4G is seeking a well-organized and self-motivated individual for the position of Program Support Intern. Ideal candidates will have exceptional writing, formatting, and administrative skills

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The internship position is responsible to support the overall program areas within various units at MS4G. It requires learning and understanding tasks within each area including all components of Workforce Development, Enterprise Development, WASH, Digital Economy, Business Enabling Environment, Investment, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Finance, Trade and to interact with other parts of the business. In addition, the intern is expected to contribute to other projects. Some projects will be one-time activities. Other projects will be ongoing with varying degrees of frequency. Frequent professional communication and interaction with internal and external customers to complete jobs is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Problem definition, research, data collection, analysis to determine best processes and methods for problem-solving.

Leadership/ ownership of assigned project(s) .

Create, input, format and update a variety of projects and reports.

Regular and clear communication with manager and internal and external team members on status of assigned project(s).

Distribute timely and accurate work.

Maintain files and generate status information.

Show professionalism in all skills.

Identify areas for improvement within current department processes.

Administrative tasks, other projects as assigned.

Occasional cross-departmental training and project work with other interns.

Effective time management skills to meet deadlines on multiple tasks, projects and priorities.

Professional and positive attitude.

Person Specification

Master’s degree in / LLM Finance, Sociology, Social Work, economics, agriculture, or related fields of social sciences.

 Desired Technical Skills.

Proficient English, both written and verbal.

Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially oral communication.

Dynamic and energetic.

Good understanding of gender mainstreaming, child safeguarding and GBV concept.

Demonstrated experience in computer skills including use and understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access.
