Job description

Overview of position

Somalia Urban Resilience Project II (SURP II) is a municipal governance, infrastructure development project financed by the World Bank (WB), its partners, aimed at improving access to urban infrastructure & strengthening municipal governance in Somalia.

The Govt. of Somalia (FGOS), through the Benadir Regional Administration (Mogadishu) representing all four municipalities of Mogadishu, Kismayo, Garowe & Baidoa has selected our client to provide the consulting services for the urban transport infrastructure works to be executed by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the respective municipalities under the project. The works involve construction of urban roads to bitumen standards, construction of associated drainage works & installation of streetlights, by the contractors engaged by the respective PIU.

The scope of ouor clients engagement is to provide technical assistance to the PIUs in the works implementation & contracts managements in the areas of implementation support, technical supervision, performance monitoring, quality control etc., as well as contributing to PIUs capacity buildings.

Role objectives

The Road Inspector will assist in the site supervision & reporting activities, under the guidance of the Resident Engineer. The specific roles & responsibilities will include:

Day to day supervision of the construction works by the contractors, maintaining daily site diaries on progress & works quality.

Visit to the material burrow areas to assist on material selection sites & the supervision of burrow site activities.

Undertake specific social & environmental compliance monitoring tasks as directed by the Resident Engineer.

Participate in the works quantities measurements for the contractors invoices verification.

Assist in the site surveys, material sampling & other duties as directed by the Resident Engineer.

Project reporting

The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Resident Engineer.

Key competencies

A minimum of a Diploma in Civil Engineering or related course is required.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in supervision of construction works, road construction experience is preferred.

Working knowledge of English is required.

Must be fluent in Somali

Team management

This role has no team management responsibility.
