The Role: The State Policy and Advocacy Team is looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful, and highly organized intern with a commitment to reproductive rights to engage in a variety of projects related to state advocacy and the team’s Integrated State Partnerships (ISP) work. This internship will provide the successful candidate with experience in the day-to-day operations of a public interest law organization with a dynamic in-house state policy and advocacy team. The intern will have opportunities to participate in collaborative projects with other Center teams as well as state-based partners and coalitions, focusing on a range of legal, legislative, and advocacy initiatives.
The internship is part-time (21 hours a week) for the duration of the 2023-24 academic year (anticipated September through May). The internship will be remote, although there will be an opportunity to work in the New York office the intern wishes.
Responsibilities:
The scope of the internship will include, but is not limited to:
Supporting initiatives to engage external partners in the Center’s legal and advocacy work, including through the planning and execution of legal briefings, partner-led community programming, and other projects and events;
Participating in weekly or bi-weekly State Policy and Advocacy meetings, internal legislative strategy meetings, and state coalition meetings;
Working with ISP staff and other internal collaborators to develop and continuously update guidance and best practices for engaging with external partners;
Conducting research for and draft memos to inform new and developing ISP initiatives;
Assisting State Policy and Advocacy staff, including State Legislative Counsels and Fellows, with monitoring and tracking state policy developments and related partner requests for support;
Working with other State Policy and Advocacy staff on additional legislative, advocacy, and research projects.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in and has completed at least one semester of an MSW program by September 2023;
Strong interpersonal, writing, and research skills; and
Demonstrated interest in reproductive rights, sexual and reproductive health, state policy and advocacy work, and/or community organizing.

Compensation: The compensation for this role is $20 per hour.
