ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT
The Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) fulfills the objectives of the Union relating to telecommunication standardization, by providing secretariat support to groups studying technical, operating and tariff questions and facilitating the adoption of Recommendations in these areas with a view to standardizing telecommunications and information technology on a global basis. In order to achieve these objectives, the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau works in accordance with the instructions of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies (WTSA), Telecommunication Standardization Study Groups and the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group. TSB, headed by an elected Director, provides the technical, administrative and logistic support for the assemblies and for the eetings of the groups mentioned.
The Operations and Planning Department (OPD), is responsible for coordinating and planning support for the activities of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector. It does this through managing the Bureau’s activities for organization and planning of assemblies and logistical support to meetings. The Department oversees document processing and provides IT services and solutions for electronic working methods and the development of ITU-T databases. The Department also provides administrative and secretarial support for intellectual property matters and manages the technical editing and final production of ITU-T recommendations and publications as well as ISO/IEC common texts. The Department collaborates closely with the Departments of the General Secretariat and the Bureaux which are responsible for providing support services.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
The Computer Science Intern will support the International Telecommunication Union- Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) in enhancing their technological capabilities and contributing to the objectives of the Department.
The intern will be involved in areas such as software development, system analysis, IT operational support, and the implementation of new technologies in the department’s activities.
This may include involvement in the editing/publishing processes, standards approval process, remote participation technologies, IT operational support requests, and participation in Special Interest Group meetings.
The intern’s work will aim to support the improvement of the efficiency and the effectiveness of ITU-T’s IT services in various areas.
The intern will work in the Operations and Planning Department (OPD) of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) of ITU.
To this end, the intern will:
Assist in the development and maintenance of ITU-T’s software and systems.
Collaborate with technical teams to understand system requirements and suggest technological solutions.
Participate in the coding, testing, and implementation of software projects.
Assist in analyzing IT operational support requests and enhancing system efficiency. eMHRrE3 CWdFHe
Help in preparing reports and presentations on technology projects and their outcomes.
COMPETENCIES
Proficiency in some programming languages such as C#.Net, Python.
Understanding of software development life cycle and system analysis techniques.
Some experience with software development tools and methodologies.
Good communication skills and ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with cloud services, database management, and open-source tools is a plus.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
No work experience required.
LANGUAGE:
English at advanced level (additional UN languages are a plus).
